Born and raised on coastal Los Angeles, Christina Reyes is a coastal Northern California based artist working with light, colour frequency, flowers, and earthen material. Christina lives and practices on the ancestral land of the Wiyot, in reverent interrelationship with the rhythms and cycles of the Coast Redwoods, Hikshari’ tributary, deer and sentinel beings who mother the local web of life and beyond. Her practice with flowering plants, light expressed through form, and the spectrum of visible colour frequency evolved through ongoing studies in child development, psychotherapeutic psychology, quantum physics, light, art, land and location. Applied and refined over many years, her work is highly specific, tailored to the individual, and created to mirror the most tender and intimate aspects of the Soul.
Christina’s relationship with fibre, machine made material, and small hand tools developed intuitively at age 7. In 2021 she returned to fibre to hold herself as she began a multi year transformation that included the loss of cherished physical spaces, dissolution of significant relationships and long held roles. She developed a devotional attunement to fibre as she worked, co~creating in dynamic rhythm, enfolding curiosity, endless possibility, and lived experience into sculptural vessel form. ‘A Sort of Homecoming’ is the first marking of this exquisite process.
